Brazilian fine art photographer Angelica Dass‘ series Humanae identifies portrait subjects from around the world using the Pantone color system. Using an 11×11 pixel swatch from her subjects’ faces, Dass matches them to corresponding Pantone colors, creating an abundant and unique catalog of skin tones that reflects the world’s diversity beyond the categorizations we have long been confined to. We recently asked her more about the ongoing project.
New doll! http://missmonster.myshopify.com/
This is Degrasse the Grimmun. Grimmun are benevolent forest creatures who are only seen when they choose to be. They are masters of camouflage, they are the quick specks you see in the corner of your eye that are gone when you turn to look. When you first enter a forest, you should offer the Grimmun something sweet: cookies, baked goods, sugar cubes. If you do, they will watch for you and make your journey more safe and will sometimes make sure you find interesting things! When you leave, check the spot where you left the treats since these little creatures will leave you a treasure. Sometimes it’s a simple acorn or rock , sometimes it’s something the Grimmun made itself, a carved antler or wood bit.
Degrasse is an eclipse Grimmun! Eclipse Grimmun are very special- they can choose to become invisible ( or revert to being seen) every time there is a lunar eclipse. Once they choose, they remain invisible or seen until the next eclipse. Degrasse just decided to become visible again during the recent lunar eclipse and tells me he wants to remain so for awhile! The kinder you are to him, the more likely he will choose to remain seen. He loves wine- a nice vintage Volnay is his favorite.
His face/ear spots, long ear hairs and back spines glow BRIGHT in the dark- a perfect companion for observing the night sky! His custom glass eyes have a really cool reflective gold, very neat effect when they catch light!
10” tall seated.
This doll is hand made using cast urethane from original sculptures, a hand sewn faux fur body. This doll is not articulated, it is a floppy style doll stuffed with eco friendly soft fiber stuffing and weighted to sit for display.
As with all of my original dolls, this piece will come with a signed and dated etched wooden tag marking it as one of my one of a kind critters.
This is a piece of artwork intended for adult collectors. It can be played with and cuddled a little but please treat it with care to prevent scuffs. Clean any cast parts with a slightly damp cloth, do not use solvents. Fur can be combed and styled if desired.
I do not take on commissioned work.
